McDONALD, John Alexander MICE, MIMechE, MASCE. (1856 ?)
John Alexander McDonald was born in England in 1856. He studied engineering for two years at Kings College in London, and served articles with Appleby Bros in London for three years.
McDonald moved to New South Wales in 1879 to join the Department of Roads and Bridges, becoming Principal Assistant for Roads and Bridges in 1884. He designed many bridges, including one across the Murrumbidgee River.
McDonald moved to Western Australia to join the Department of Public Works under C Y O’Connor in 1894. He worked as the resident engineer for the Fremantle Harbour Works between 1895 and 1897. He left the department in 1899.
