Engineering Heritage Tours

In 2019 Engineering Heritage Western Australia developed a walking tour for Perth CBD. When resources are available, it is intended to develop a complementary walking tour for Fremantle CBD and a Perth Region driving tour that will focus on the Engineering Heritage Recognition Program sites in and around Perth. Ultimately it is intended to provide maps locating all of the engineering heritage sites of interest in Western Australia so that travellers can be aware of what sites may be nearby depending on their location in our vast State.

Engineering Heritage Maps

In 2021, Engineering Heritage Western Australia and Engineering Heritage Tasmania with support from Sam Shan (University of Tasmania IT work experience student), developed a mapping tool that enables a viewer to type in their current or intended address and then see the location of engineering heritage places within various nominal travel distances.

Location of Western Australian Engineering Heritage Places

After selecting a Location, the user can display a map that shows all places of engineering heritage interest. The result can be limited to significant places that have been recognised under the National Engineering Heritage Recognition Program by selecting the [EHRP Places] box.

Long linear places such as the Coolgardie Goldfields Water Supply often have more than one marker, usually at the start and end points. For these places, the map includes multiple results providing the location of all installed markers.

The distance provided by this system is a calculation of the distance between the start and place location co ordinates. Actual travel distances will be larger depending on the route available.
