BAINS, George Skipsey Liddle MIMCE MRSI AMIEAust (1871-1948)

George Skipsey Liddle Bains was born in South Shields, Durham, England on September 30, 1871. He was the son of Joseph Grey Bains and his wife Jane Bains (nee Liddle).

George Bains commenced his professional career as Surveyor and then Town Engineer at Saltburn by the Sea, Yorkshire, England. He then had two postings in Southern Nigeria as a District Engineer.

In 1911 he married Jean Patton at Gateshead, Durham, England.

Bains arrived in Fremantle on the SMS Goeben on July 17, 1911 and was appointed as Town Clerk and Engineer for the Town of Guildford. He held this position until 1926 when he was appointed the City Engineer for Fremantle, retiring in 1944.

He died at Fremantle on February 25, 1948 being survived by his wife, Jean, and a married daughter, Gladys Christie.
